Solihull Vintage Fair Cake Stall Experience\ Lady of Vintage Bakery

Over the weekend I was suppose to attend two fairs but due to some issues, I could only make Saturday's vintage fair.

As per usual, I thought I would share some pictures from the event. It didn't go too badly, however I was expecting it to be a bit busier! It was an all round pleasant day with some really polite stall holders and customers. The quality of stall holders & their products was also probably the best I had seen in a while so I would suggest taking a look at future fairs by the organisers (west midlands fairs).

This was also my last fair for a while since I'm taking a break over August to build on the new website!

Excuse the messy hair! I didn't have any time to curl it in the morning..at least the cakes look pretty!

Solihull Vintage Fair and Lady of Vintage Bakery News

Hello Vintage Ladies..

I have been very busy recently designing and tweaking the new website for the bakery (www.ladyofvintagebakery.com). It really does take a lot of time and effort these things. Its different from a blog in the sense it has to be perfect and speak for the business before the whole thing is published. Where as a blog seems to grow with you.
It's a slow process but I aim to spend the month of August baking lots of different cakes to take pictures for the new site. I will also be introducing a whole section of genuine 50's baking recipes from old cookery books I am starting to collect!

I have a two fairs this weekend where I will be introducing my new coconut cupcakes and returning with my Nutella cake. So if you are around come and say hello!

In the meantime, I hope you're all enjoying your summer!

Butterfly & Hello Kitty Cupcake Toppers

If you have seen in my previous cake stall posts, I have been experimenting with some cute cupcake toppers recently. I found a fantastic ebay store called Kreative Cakes run by the very helpful Natalie. She does some really fun designs for all sorts of occasions and also does special requests designs too. You can chose whether to have them pre cut or simply do it yourself (it's not that hard!). So I thought I would share with you the ones I got.

Pink Butterflies:
These are great for cupcakes due to their size. They're just big enough to make an impact yet a nice elegant touch.

Hello Kitty:
I love the fact these stand up. And they are perfect for a girly children's party. My nieces love this little feline so they are always a hit.

Gucci & Louis Vuitton Butterflies:
I actually requested these from Natalie for my sister in laws birthday cupcakes. She kindly made them for me free of charge, which was wonderful! My sister in law loves all things designer and cake so what better way to put a smile on her face!

Overall, I would recommend these cake toppers. They are a fun way to decorate all types of cakes and create a 3D effect to wow your guests.

You can buy these toppers from Kreative Cakes Ebay shop here.
They also have a website: www.kreativecakes.co.uk

Vintage Accesories: What are Cardigan Clips?\Lady of Vintage

I love little final touches to any outfit and these little gems are just that. They are also known as sweater gaurds and were popular in the 50's due to capes and cardigans being button less. They consist of two decorated clips and a fancy chain or string. They have seen a somewhat revival recently through the hit show Mad Men. Although I really fall in love with them all over again when I see them on Miss Pillsbury on Glee. Here are a few of my favourite designs, vintage and reproduction:

Tattooed Zombie Accessories
These Cupcake Cardigan Clips would be just perfect when I'm selling my cakes! The shop is US based but deliver worldwide and have some great quirky accessories.

Vintage Lavender Purple
The pop of colour on these would make them perfect for a summer day or perhaps a wedding outfit.
$18/£11

Rockabilly Cardigan Clips £9.84
For the darker side. If you're not into your girly pinks and cupcakes I think these are pretty striking too.
Etsy: Rose Petal Resources
$32/£20.99
This is for the classic vintage outfit. Perfect for daytime or evening wear, the pearls just look classically stunning.

What do you think to cardigan clips? Are they a must have or just plain granny chic?

Quirky Find:Teapot 'Hello, is it tea you're looking for?'\ Lady of Vintage

Even though I love coffee, nothing beats a proper cup of tea with a slice of cake.

I had a little giggle when I found this amazing tea pot. My two favourite things in one, Lionel Richie and tea. It's officially on the birthday wishlist!

I did some research and you can buy the pot over on Etsy from a shop called LennyMud. They do a few other really funny mugs and pots too so worth taking a look!

Craft Fair Cake Stall\ Lady of Vintage

So after last week's awful experience at the marina festival (read all about it here), I was still slightly on edge about today's craft fair. I had to tell keep telling myself it really could not get any worse!

I enjoy doing craft fairs because I just feel the other stall holders and people who come in actually appreciate the time and effort put into home made things. The particular event was managed by Lydgate Management. This was the first time using them and their organisation was fantastic and they really work hard to draw the crowds in! They actually stand outside themselves with flyers and boards.
It was set in a modest church hall but, overall, there was a great selection of people who came in (young and old). And most importantly, they were all PLEASANT. I did not get one dodgy look or remark. So it must have been the people at that awful place last week then perhaps?

I had some yummy new additions this time in the form of savoury muffins (recipe here) and Nutella cake (recipe coming soon).

Well here are some pictures. I took them halfway through so the stands look a bit bare!oops :)
Ignore the background! We were right by the church hall's stage.

These always go down a treat

Pink lemonade with strawberries as well this time
Overall, a good experience and I would recommend events by this organiser.

Breakfast Muffin: Ham & Mushroom with cheese\ Lady of Vintage Bakery

I'm really not a big fan of breakfast and have to really force myself to eat something. So I thought I'd experiment with a savoury breakfast muffin which I could have on the go. The recipe is pretty straightforward and the muffin keeps for a good few days.

Vintage Wedding Inspiration\ Lady of Vintage

Thought I'd share this wonderful find. I absolutely love the headpiece and veil. The collar detail is also stunning but I'm not sure if it would be very flattering on me.

Rainbow Cookies Recipe\ Lady of Vintage Bakery

I sold these cookies at the weekend and they added a lot of colour to the stall! They are made more or less the same as my sugar cookies, so super easy..

Mercia Marina Festival Cake Stall Experience\Lady of Vintage

Oh how I've missed my blog over the past few days!
So another weekend has gone and it was a long one to say the least. I had high hopes for this particular event and was pretty excited but nothing could prepare me for what I experienced.

We could have done with a bigger table!
This had been the first fair i had done outdoors and the weather was ok with a few bits of rain. So my sister helped me set up battle the gazebo and we hoped for the best. If you have seen past posts, you know I have been concentrating on vintage and craft fairs so this was a bit of a change. All I can say is it was a mistake.

Carrying on from my quirky 'Crayola Nail Polish' find the other day is this Swiss Army Knife Manicure.
Surely it wouldn't come in that handy?

Thoughts & Ponders: The act of forgiveness.

I know this is a bit off topic and doesn't necessarily fit in with the whole vintage theme. However, it's something that I have been thinking about writing for quite a while...
The act 'art' of forgiving someone.

We learnt to forgive others when we were all children on the school playground. Another child would take a toy off you or make you cry and they would be made to "say sorry". Even if you didn't want to, you were told to accept the apology, forgive them and move on. Back then a sorry was enough for you to become friends again and play happily for the rest of lunchtime. Oh how things change!
Like most of the population, I have had a few people betray me, take advantage of me and break my heart. I have always been the kind of person to trust others until they give me a reason not to. I think it's a great thing to see the best in people but also very risky.

So why is something that has been taught to us since childhood such a hard thing to do as we get older?
